Become A Non Smoker
All smokers really understand how serious the habit is and how detrimental to their health and that of others their smoking habit can be. They also understand how addictive it can be. An interesting observation about the power of the addiction is that most smokers will openly admit to not being able to control their addiction and that quitting smoking would be difficult or imposible for them. If you ask a smoker if they would like to give up then most of them will answer with ‘yes’ they would but still they continue to smoke. Giving up smoking is such a serious and difficult task that it seems to defy logic in those that it has trapped in its addiction. With most people stopping smoking requires a many faceted plan and a lot of will-power and some little tips and techniques to call upon. This can be even more difficult when one is surrounded by other smokers.
It is a good idea when giving up smoking to not spend too much time in places where it is allowed to smoke or around others who smoke. You cannot ignore the fact that smoking exists and sooner or later you will be in the situation where you are tested, where you have the possibility to smoke if you wish and are tempted by the circumstances. The person who has recently given up smoking lives in fear of the first time they are offered a cigarette. Or even of being in a bar for example with a drink in one hand and nothing in the other. The best way to handle this is to think of yourself as a non-smoker. Give yourself this label and become a ‘non-smoker’. If you are offered a cigarette you can quite easily say, ‘no thanks, I don’t smoke’ and when you are tempted yourself you can ask yourself, ‘what do I want a cigarette for?, I’m a non smoker’.
This may seem like a pointless exercise but you will be surprised at how effective it can be because a great part of smoking is psychological then you will react well to other psychological stimuli. If you are deep down still considering yourself as a smoker then it will not be long before you give in to the temptation and start smoking again. You must really tell yourself and believe that you are now a non smoker. This can be called upon after meals, when seeing movies with people smoking, reading magazines with adverts in etc.
If you are a smoker trying to give up and you are confronted with many temptations on a daily basis then it will be very difficult to not give in and smoke. If you are a non smoker and see others smoking then you will not be tempted as much as repulsed.
Thinking of yourself as a non smoker will do wonders for your self esteem and motivation in your time of transition and will generally improve your chances of success in giving up smoking.
Become non smoker by giving up smoking or quitting smoking.
