Of the millions of smokers in the world, especially the so called 'heavy smokers' and those who have been smoking for some time, the prospect of stopping can be a daunting one to say the least. Nicotine addiction is very string and it is a very cunning addiction which can seem at times to have its own personality. There is the physical addiction which makes your body physically crave for a continuing supply and that provokes undesirable physical symptoms when the addiction is not fulfilled and then there is the psychological addiction that will trick and deceive us for years to come and that will associate smoking to various habits and situations that occur on a daily basis. You might want to do some sums and work out exactly how much you will be saving and plan on what you will do with the extra cash. .. Keep these reasons in mind as you will need to fall back on these fundamental reasons for wanting to give up in the near future.
Once you've got your willpower built up then you can smoke your last cigarette. Then to keep you spirits high you might want to consider that the human body will start to show the effects of not smoking as soon as 12 hours after the last cigarette. The carbon monoxide level in your blood and the oxygen levels will start to return to normal and your breathing will improve. At 24 hours you are statistically lessening the chances of having a heart attack. The benefits to your health just keep on increasing as time goes on.
As time goes on and you remain a non smoker then your health will keep on improving, you should keep in mind that you need to maintain your will power for many years after having given up as it is very easy to think that the process of 'giving up' has ended when in fact the nicotine is still playing tricks on you making it quite common to want to smoke 'just one' cigarette even years after having successfully stopped. (That 'just one' of course converts at lightning speed into 'just one a day' and then into 'just 3 or 4 a day' followed shortly after in 'just one packet a day')

The stronger your plan to stop smoking is the stronger the possibility of success. It is of utmost importance that you maintain your will power throughout the next several years. Once you have stopped and told yourself that it will be for ever then the will power will slowly start to increase and the temptation will slowly decrease but be warned that the nicotine plays subtle tricks on you and will try to get you to smoke just one cigarette for many years to com. This is the most difficult aspect of giving up smoking and is a temptation you MUST not succumb to.
