Why Should You Quit Smoking

Cigarettes in many places are both legal and socially acceptable which makes their two-fold addiction (physical and psychological) all the more difficult to combat. The physical addiction is noted when you quit smoking and start to experience mild trembling, headaches, irritability. These symptoms alone might be compared in strength to that of a mild cold that many people could easily go through in order to give up smoking. The psychological addiction is much more subtle and much harder to dominate the can be noted in social situations where you are accustomed to smoke and at certain times of day or when performing certain actions that you would previously do whilst smoking. the psychological addiction stays with you and tries to deceive you into rationalizing the smoking of just one cigarette. It can last many years.

The best way to see if your attempt to give up smoking will be a success is note how prepared you are mentally. If you truly want to give up then this will be the only way you to successfully fight the addiction. You will really need something to motivate you which you can fall back on and remind yourself of in times of desperation which will undoubtedly occur somewhere along the line in your attempt to give up smoking. One such motivation might be to think of the health aspect, the benefits when you are asking yourself why quit smoking and of the risks of continuing smoking.

We are all very aware of the risks and dangers of smoking but as smokers we distort the truth and selectively forget certain facts or at least put them into the back of our minds or classify them as not important. It is a good idea, when trying to quit smoking to revise these health matters and refresh your memory as to why quit smoking when you are passing through your times of temptation;

Lung cancer and heart disease are the main two factors for giving up smoking as your chances of contracting either or both of these is significantly high if you are a smoker. You will be prone to premature death and will have numerous breathing problems. Also you must remember that you are also putting others at risk by smoking by submitting them to passive smoking. This can be very detrimental to health especially over the long term.

When you are trying to stop smoking you might also want to concentrate on some of the immediate benefits of quitting smoking; your sense of smell will return or will improve greatly and as a result your sense of taste will be reactivated and you will be able to enjoy food and eating much more than before.

As another motivator technique you might also want to consider the amount of money you are going to be saving. Smoking is very expensive and as time goes on will just get more and more so. If you are paying $5 for a pack of cigarettes then if you smoke a pack a day you will save $2000 in the first year alone. A good motivation is to put the money you would have spent on smoking in a jar and watch it grow. Even at the end of the first week you will have enough to be able to treat yourself to a decent meal in a restaurant.

These little reminders are your tools and you should be constantly using them to justify to your nicotine habit the reasons why you should quit smoking. To quit smoking is a win-win situation and you should remind yourself of the benefits as often as you can so that you may successfully give up smoking for good.

Why quit smoking because when you quit smoking you give up smoking for ever.
